Here are some tips to help you drive free from distraction:

  • Stay focused! Do not multitask (eat, perform personal grooming, search through a wallet, etc.) while driving and keep your attention on the road
  • Do not text and drive
  • Do not use electronic devices while driving
  • Secure items that may move around while the vehicle is in motion
  • Do not allow children to climb around the car, they should be in their seats with seatbelts on at all times
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Adjust your seat, mirrors, and temperature controls before you begin driving
  • Plan your route ahead of time and know where you are going
  • Always drive sober and drug-free
  • Avoid driving while tired or drowsy
  • Perform regular vehicle maintenance to keep your vehicle safe and help reduce safety issues while out on the road
  • Focus on staying calm while driving, do not engage in “road rage” for your safety

Accidents

If an accident unfortunately occurs, follow these important guidelines:

  • Make sure no one is injured. If an injury has occurred call 911 immediately so help can be dispatched to the scene.
  • Regardless of if an injury has occurred, call the local police or 911 so an accident report can be completed
  • Do not leave the scene. Stay in your car and wait for authorities to arrive.
  • Stay calm
  • Contact your insurance agent or carrier to report a claim as soon as it is safe to do so
