Coverage Options

Homeowners Insurance

Homeowners insurance helps protect one of your most important assets, your home. It provides coverage in the event of losses or damages to your home or its contents and it can also provide liability coverage if someone gets hurt on your property. When accidents happen, home insurance can help cover the cost of related expenses and help get your life back to normal.

What does home insurance typically cover?

• Your home and any additional structures: if structural damage occurs due to wind, fire, hail, water (sometimes), and theft/vandalism
• Your belongings: if damage occurs to assets within your home due to wind, fire, hail, water (sometimes), and theft/vandalism
• Personal liability: if others incur property damage or bodily injury while in your home
• Additional expenses: if you incur additional costs when you are experiencing a covered loss (for example- costs to live somewhere else if your home is uninhabitable)

What is typically not covered by home insurance?
• Earthquakes
• Floods

Home insurance can be customized with different coverages and limits to help ensure you have protection that is appropriate for your unique needs. Be sure to review your home insurance needs with your agent.

• Covered perils can be limited or broad
• Personal property can be covered at Actual Cash Value or Replacement Cost
• Water, sump, and sewer back-up coverage can be added, but is an additional coverage

Also, keep in in mind that if you have multiples homes (vacation homes, etc.), you will need to secure coverage for each property.

Auto Insurance

While out on the road, it’s essential to have auto insurance to help protect you in the event of an accident or if your vehicle is stolen, vandalized, or damaged. Auto insurance offers financial protection if you are involved in an accident by helping to pay for associated expenses (repairs, property damage, medical bills, and more). Most states require drivers to maintain a minimum amount of liability insurance. Often, failure to secure the auto insurance required by law in your state could result in fines, driver’s license suspension, or even jail time.

What does auto insurance cover?

Auto insurance typically covers a number of things for covered accidents and losses, including:

 Bodily Injury Liability:

If you injure or cause death to someone in a car accident, this coverage pays their medical, rehabilitation, and in-home care expenses. It also pays for any damages for which you are found legally liable including pain and suffering, lost wages, and funeral expenses.

 Property Damage Liability:

If you damage someone’s vehicle or other property in an accident and you are at fault, this coverage pays for it.

• Medical Payments:

This coverage pays medical bills for you, your passengers, and others who are covered by your policy, regardless of fault.

 Uninsured Motorist (UM):

This coverage applies to you, your family and your passengers for bodily injury if you are hit by an at-fault uninsured motorist. This does not cover damage to property.

 Underinsured Motorist (UIM):

This coverage applies to you, your family and your passengers for bodily injury if you are hit by an at-fault motorist who does not have enough insurance to cover your expenses. This does not cover damage to property.

Uninsured Motorist Property Damage Insurance (UMPD):

UMPD covers damage to your vehicle caused by an identified, at-fault, uninsured driver. This option is only offered if you choose not to purchase collision coverage.

 Collision Coverage:

Collision helps pay for damage to your vehicle when it collides with another vehicle or object or if it overturns. Your lender may require this coverage if you have a loan or lease on your vehicle. Typically, a deductible applies for this coverage.

 Comprehensive Coverage (Other Than Collision):

Comprehensive helps pay for damage to or the loss of your vehicle from causes other than collision (example: hail, vandalism, flood, fire and theft, etc.) Your lender may require this coverage if you have a loan or lease on your vehicle. Typically, a deductible applies for this coverage.

 Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Coverage:

PIP is a coverage in which the auto insurance company pays, within the specified limits, the medical, hospital and funeral expenses of the insured person, people in the insured vehicle and pedestrians struck by the insured vehicle. PIP is the basic coverage implemented in no-fault automobile insurance states.

Auto insurance typically does not cover:

 Vehicle maintenance

 Belongings inside your vehicle

 Commercial use of your vehicle

You can customize your auto insurance to offer the level of protection you are seeking.  There are a variety of additional products you can add onto your standard policy, including:

 Towing and Labor Coverage

Reimburses you when your vehicle breaks down or is damaged and must be towed to a repair shop or to another location.

 Gap (Loan/Lease) Coverage

Gap pays the difference between an insurance company’s payment for a totaled vehicle and the balance of a vehicle loan. This coverage is traditionally only available when an individual is purchasing a new vehicle.

 Rental Reimbursement/Transportation Expenses

This is an optional policy benefit that pays the rental fee if you must rent a vehicle for a reasonable time while your vehicle is being repaired resulting from a covered loss.

Renters Insurance

Renters insurance helps protect you and your belongings should the unexpected happen. Whether you rent an apartment, house, or other type of space, renters insurance offers protection for where you live. Beyond physical items, renters insurance also typically offers liability protection and medical protection for guests.

What does renters insurance typically cover?

• Your belongings/personal property: if damage occurs to assets within your rented apartment or home due to wind, fire, hail, water (sometimes), and theft/vandalism
• Personal liability: if others incur property damage or bodily injury while in your rented apartment or home
• Additional expenses: if you incur additional costs when you are experiencing a covered loss (for example- costs to live somewhere else if your rented home is uninhabitable)

What typically is not covered by renters insurance?
• Personal property losses or liability protection that exceeds your coverage limits
• Structural damage to the building you rent your home/space in

Renters insurance can be customized with different coverages and limits to help ensure you have protection that is appropriate for your unique needs. There are many additional coverages that may be beneficial including coverage for valuable jewelry and flood insurance. To help determine how much renters insurance coverage you need, it is important to know the total value of your personal belongings.

Condo Insurance

Similar to homeowners insurance, condo insurance helps protect one of your most important assets, your personal property. While your condo association master policy likely covers your external structure, condo insurance offers coverage for your internal contents and belongings as well as offering liability coverage in the event of an accident resulting in personal injury.

What does condo insurance typically cover?

Personal property: this can include furniture, electronics, clothing, jewelry, etc.

Property damage to your condo based on your Condo (Home) Owner’s Agreement

Personal liability: this can include liability for the damage of someone else’s property while visiting or if someone sustains an injury while at your condo

Additional expenses: if you incur additional costs when you are experiencing a covered loss (for example- costs to live somewhere else if your home is uninhabitable)

Often times, mortgage lenders or condo associations may mandate that certain coverage requirements are met.  Be sure to review bylaws and secure appropriate coverage to help ensure you are protected.  Also, keep in mind that depending on where you live, you may need additional coverage to help protect your condo against damage from earthquakes, floods, wind, or hail.

Motorcycle Insurance

For many, nothing is better than being on a motorcycle on the open road. However, before you hit the road, it’s very important to secure appropriate motorcycle insurance to help protect you and your bike should the unexpected happen. Most states require some form of motorcycle insurance and insurance may also be required to register your bike.

Motorcycle insurance can be customized and there are many coverage options available.  However, most standard motorcycle insurance provides coverage for:

Bodily injury to others caused by an accident

Property damage to others caused by an accident

Collision coverage: if your motorcycle hits, or is hit by another vehicle or object

Comprehensive coverage: if your motorcycle is damaged or stolen

Medical bills related to an accident

You can customize your auto insurance to offer the level of protection you are seeking.

There are a variety of additional products you can add onto your standard policy, including:

 Emergency roadside assistance

 Custom equipment and parts

 Rental reimbursement

Boat Insurance

While out on the water, having peace of mind that your valuable asset is protected is key. This is where boat insurance comes in. Boat insurance offers protection for many of the risks you and your boating guests might face while on your adventures.

Standard boat insurance typically covers:

Bodily injury to others caused by an accident

Property damage to others caused by an accident

Collision coverage: if your boat or watercraft hits, or is hit by another watercraft or object

Comprehensive coverage: if your boat or watercraft is damaged or stolen

Medical bills related to an accident

 Boating equipment and accessories

Emergency services (exp. on-water towing, fuel delivery, jump starts, etc.)

Remember, boats are not automatically covered under your homeowner’s policy.  If they are covered in any capacity, that coverage is usually restricted or not applicable once your boat is on the water and off of your property.  To help safeguard your financial wellbeing in the event of an accident with your boat, it’s important to secure boat insurance.

RV Insurance*

Adventure awaits when you have an RV. However, while you are taking road trips and traveling the country, it’s important to stay safe. Securing RV insurance can offer peace of mind as you embark on your excursions. Just like auto insurance, most states require you to have a minimum amount of liability insurance if you drive your RV on the road. RV insurance can be tailored to help meet the needs of your vehicle and recommended coverage is based on its features.

*Including Class A/B/C motorhomes, travel trailers, and campers

What does RV insurance cover?

Standard RV insurance typically covers:

Bodily injury to others caused by an accident

Property damage to others caused by an accident

Collision coverage: if your RV hits, or is hit by another vehicle or object

Comprehensive coverage: if your RV is damaged or stolen

 Personal property coverage

Medical bills related to an accident

 Emergency services (exp. towing)

Keep in mind that items or equipment of value that are kept inside of your RV may require additional insurance.  If you are unsure of what your RV policy covers, speak to your insurance agent.

Umbrella Insurance

Personal umbrella insurance is a coverage type many people opt to secure in order to further protect themselves and their assets from the unexpected. Umbrella insurance offers additional liability coverage over the limits of your home and auto coverage. It can help protect you against covered liability claims that have substantial financial losses at stake. For example, it can help cover legal costs if you are sued for property damage or medical injuries. It can also provide personal injury protection including things like libel, slander, defamation, false arrest, and invasion of privacy. Umbrella insurance can cover you and your spouse as well as any dependent living with you.

Umbrella insurance typically does not cover business-related damages/liability, personal belongings, or intentional acts.
